Stylish resort with high-altitude skiing

St. Moritz

CONSIDERED TO BE A WINTER PLAYGROUND FOR THE WEALTHY

St Moritz, with around 354 kilometres of pistes, is one of the most famous ski resorts in the world. Thanks to its idyllic location, on a sunny terrace in the beautiful Engadin valley overlooking a big frozen lake, St Moritz hosts all kinds of other winter sports - there's skating, curling, horse-racing, polo, cricket, golf and even ski-joring: being towed on skis behind a horse. The three main ski areas are all very different in character.  Corviglia, Corvatsch and Diavolezza Lagalb are all connected by bus or train and it is possible for you to ski back to St Moritz Bad from Corvatsch, but otherwise there are no trails or lifts between the three areas at the moment.

With more than 96 kilometres of runs close to home at Corviglia, the largest of the three ski areas, many skiers and snowboarders are happy to remain on the local slopes for the duration of their stay. The more adventurous will want to see what other temptations the area has to offer. Across the valley, Corvatsch is reached by cable cars from Surlej or Furtschellas at either end of Lake Silvaplana, and provides a large area of quite steep terrain. There's some spectacular skiing too at St Moritz's neighbouring resort of Pontresina. For non-skiers, there's a wide array of activities including more than 200 kilometres of scenic cross-country tracks and miles of winter walking trails.
