Schönau has a perfect position for both scenery and winter sports

Schönau am Königssee

SLOPES FOR EVERY LEVEL SKIER, ESPECIALLY FAMILIES

Nestled at the northern end of the Königssee, Schönau has a perfect position for both scenery and winter sports. The village boasts the famous bobsleigh run on the shores of the lake, the ski-touring in the neighbouring National Park, and the closest access in the region to the Jenner ski area. Schönau shares with Berchtesgaden a history that is bound with the extraction of salt from the mines in the area, but the village is also known for its craftsman who made dolls and toys, as well as tools and work implements.

The Jenner ski area just outside Schönau is the most well-known and largest of the ski areas in the Königssee and is easily reached by car, ski bus or on foot from some of the closer hotels. The Jenner's slopes have long been highly recommended among ski and snowboard enthusiasts with good levels of snow virtually guaranteed between mid-December and spring thanks to state-of-the art snow-making equipment. Schönau can be reached from the north on the German Alpine Road or via Salzburg and the motorway and a regular train service to nearby Berchtesgaden operates from the main Munich railway station.

Schönau am Königssee offers skiing for every level, especially for families. Whether you are a beginner or an extreme skier, you will be eager to put on some skis and hit the slopes. Explore the downhill skiing on Mt. Jenner, the ski tours through the National Park or cross-country skiing on the 15 kilometres of groomed trails.
