This international resort boasts great skiing and has fantastic style

Cortina d'Ampezzo

CORTINA IS LOVINGLY REFERRED TO AS 'QUEEN OF THE DOLOMITES'

Cortina rivals any other resort in the Alps and is lovingly referred to as 'Queen of the Dolomites'. Magnificently located and surrounded by spectacular peaks that rise nearly 2000 metres above the village, this up market, picturesque resort offers long, easy, well-groomed runs for beginners and leisurely intermediates. For experienced skiers, who wish to practise "extreme skiing", you will find in Cortina some of the most breathtaking back-country excursions in the world. Cortina d'Apezzo has a great variety of winter activities for guests to indulge in after a day of skiing, with a great emphasis on excellent wine tasting, fantastic Italian cuisine and entertainment. Other great winter activities on offer include Taxi-Bob, crazy sledge, snow rafting and ice-skating.

This ski resort is made up of four very distinct ski areas, each offering a radically different ski experience, from skiing below the tree line, down the beautiful valleys, to groomed runs above and below the tree line. Faloria-Cristallo-Mietres; Tofana-Socrepes; Lagazuoi and Cinque Torri all connect by both lift and skibus service. Tofana is the place for intermediates to head to for good snow cover and an open bowl. Perfect piste grooming and a massive amount of snow making facilities ensure that you are in for a smooth ride whilst cruising around the picturesque Dolomiti ski area. Beginners will find nursery slopes galore at Socrepes and some great pickings of gentles blue runs throughout the ski areas for you to get stuck into. Another run simply not to be missed is the "Hidden Valley" red run from Lagazuoi. This 8 kilometre extravaganza has some awesome views. For the more challenging slopes advanced and expert skiers need to make their way to the handful of black runs, referred to as the Forcello Rossa at Ra Valles and the Frocello Stauries off the towering Cristallo. The marked terrain is as good for snowboarders as it is for skiers. Breat off piste and good grooming make this a haven for carvers. Boarders will also find a terrain park in Faloria.
