Ski resort of contrasts
Heavenly is a ski resort of contrasts. On one hand, glorious tree skiing amongst huge ancient pines, on the other, casinos, gambling and live shows. Sunny for days on end, then dumping down snow......for days on end. Ski in Nevada one run, and then ski California the next. Views of beautiful Lake Tahoe, snowy mountains and forests on one side, whilst there are views of arid desert on the other. Heavenly is a real surprise package. Heavenly is situated on the California / Nevada state border. On the California side, Heavenly is practically in the town of South Lake Tahoe, which as the name suggests is at the southern end of Lake Tahoe. The "town" on the Nevada side is called Stateline and is home to various casinos. This is an intermediate cruiser and advanced tree skiing mecca with the odd steep thrown in for good measure. Arriving at South Lake Tahoe, you wonder where all the ski terrain is. All you can see are a couple of lift lines and the classic Gunbarrel run slashed through the trees. But don't worry as Heavenly is a massive ski resort. There are 4,800 acres of Heavenly ski and snowboard terrain, and more than 1,000 metres of vertical to play in. Heavenly is situated adjacent to (some would say part of) the town of South Lake Tahoe and Stateline. There are an abundance of South Lake Tahoe hotels and motels, apartments and vacation rentals. Over the border, there are plenty of Stateline hotels, motels and casinos. And with about 20 wedding chapels, you could even get married at Heavenly and combine your wedding with the perfect skiing honeymoon! Hmmm.... Heavenly has it all - awesome tree skiing and cruising, high annual snowfall and some blistering sunshine (if you're into that), spectacular views, and heaps of after ski fun at the casinos, bars, shops, and on the lake.
