A unique ski village with a distinctively West Coast style, relaxed mood and spectacular skiing&snowboarding Whistler Blackcomb is a resort in a class of its own, and is justifiably considered one of the hottest ski destinations in the world. It's sometimes just called Whistler even though it consists of the two mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb. The resort is so large that it offers more of everything that you would ever want from a snow holiday: wonderful skiing and boarding; an efficient lift system; on-mountain accommodation to suit all budgets; and great après and nightlife. There are 200+ marked trails with a skiable terrain of an incredible 8,171 acres, and a huge vertical drop of 1,609 metres. The massive network of trails can mean that you can easily ski for a couple of days and not find the same run twice. The Whistler ski area varies incredibly from gentle slopes and wide groomed cruisers, to steep bowls, couloirs, and tree skiing. No other resort offers so much variety. It suits all types of riders from first-timers to extreme skiers who want to experience the steeps. You can feel like you're accessing backcountry areas without ever leaving the resort boundaries. The only downside to the terrain is for those with un-fit legs who will struggle with the super long runs. Also, sometimes the powder that falls is a bit wet, but the terrain makes up for it. Whistler-Blackcomb is committed to developing the resort and they're always constantly upgrading the infrastructure. The Flute bowl and Peak to Creek have been recently opened up, providing significant new in-bounds territory. The new Whistler peak to peak lift has been completed and is incredibly impressive. The building of the sky cabins connecting the peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb is an amazing engineering feat! Whistler is just two hours north of Vancouver, British Columbia, on the west coast of Canada. The pedestrian-only village of Whistler is very vibrant, and is full of restaurants, bars and plenty of shops to delight any shopaholic. There are another two main bases, with one at Blackcomb Mountain, and another village at Creekside. Most Whistler hotels are walking distance to the lifts, but there's also a substantial shuttle bus system to aid the "commute". As a multi-award winner, Whistler Blackcomb is a must for any skier or snowboarder. You won't find a resort with better facilities, but the downside is that everyone else knows how great this place is, so it can be hard to find a table for lunch or a perching spot during après. No one seems to care though, because the place is so great. In the words of the Canadians, Whistler is "awesome".
