One of Asahikawa's best kept secrets.

Kamui Ski Links (KSL) is renowned for extremely fine dry snow and varied terrain that offers something for everybody. Thanks to it's proximity to Asahikawa City, it is a favorite with Asahikawa locals and highly recommended addition to any good powder tour of Northern Hokkaido. KSL is conveniently nestled among sheltering hills allowing snow at Kamui to accumulate for the most part undisturbed and making for remarkably deep and smooth riding during the first session of the day. With the surrounding hills providing a wind buffer, closures due to adverse weather are few and far between.

At Kamui you will find 10 groomed courses and plenty of chances to go off- course and get into the trees. The groomed courses vary in length and difficulty offering plenty for both experienced riders and beginners. Even the beginner courses in the bottom third of the hill have short steeper sections allowing beginners to hone their skills. Along the fringes of most groomed runs you'll be able to duck into wide, deep collections of super-dry powder.

Kamui Links Ski and Snowboard Terrain Kamui Links is a small to medium sized ski resort with 600 metres of vertical. A very relaxed approach to off-piste and tree skiing is a major plus for Kamui Links, as are the out-of-bounds areas that are easily accessible via the lift system. There are also great groomers and runs for beginners. There’s enough terrain at Kamui to keep you interested for at least three to four days.

This resort has a reputation for being quiet, but occasionally there can be queues for the gondola, and the groomed runs can be busy with school children and army groups. Nevertheless, it’s easy to see why this resort has the reputation of quietness. Away from the groomed runs there were very few people, and even on the days when tour groups arrive from Furano (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday), there are plenty of fresh tracks to be ripped up. Don’t tell anyone about the dry powder at Kamui, and it should remain a playground for powderhounds!

Where is Kamui Links Ski Resort? Kamui Links is only 20 minutes from downtown Asahikawa on the north island (Hokkaido) of Japan. Asahikawa is 1.5 hours northeast of Sapporo, and from Asahikawa, Kamui Links is easily accessible via shuttle bus or car. Furano ski resort is a little further away, but it’s also commonly used as a base for Kamui Links.

Why Ski or Snowboard at Kamui Links, Japan? Kamui Links is a great little powderhound treasure. Sure the powder runs aren’t super long, but Kamui is about quality not quantity.

And the advantage of skiing at Kamui and staying in Asahikawa is that you’re not staying at a resort where the cultural experience can sometimes be a fraction artificial. In Asahikawa you might not find any Westerners and you will absolutely experience the real Japan. You can bow to your heart’s content and say konnichiwa over and over (and plenty of other Japanese words).
