One of Sweden's smaller resorts but a great gem for beginners and families

Vemdalen is one of the smaller ski centres in Sweden and is considered to be quiet, off the beaten track and very, very special. Vemdelen offers skiing up to 938 metres, both above and below the tree-line and is a fairly snow-sure resort, with half of the slopes covered by snow-making facilities. Vemdalen is also linked to neighbouring resorts Bjornrike and Klosjo, all of which are covered on the same lift pass, which makes this area good value for money.

The majority of the skiing, takes place on wide and gentle pistes, which are perfect for families and beginners. The ski school is also one of the most highly regarded in Sweden and offers expert tuition from fluent instructors. There is also a dedicated children's ski area. Intermediates will find a few fast cruisers to enjoy, with the longest run in Vemdalen spanning just over 2 kilometres. Off-piste is extemely popular, and the ski school also offers off-piste courses and group excursions. Advanced skiers may find themselves somewhat limited, that said however, Vemdalen has hosted the World Cup championships twice and is a popular venue for national competitions, and the resort is home to a certain amount of more challenging terrain, including some fast blacks and tough mogul trails.

With at least 180 kilometres of marked cross-country skiing trails, cross country skiers will feel like their in heaven. You will be able to get close and explore the beautiful mountains, open countryside and nearby villages. The stunning unspoilt landscape, with miles of exciting forests and lakes make Vemdalen and Bjornrike a totally different winter-sports experience compared with the Alps. Other great non-ski activities include snowmobile safaris, ice fishing and dog-sledge rides, icelandic pony trekking and ice climbing.

Vemdalen offers a relaxed, low-key après-ski scene, live entertainment and a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a high standard of customer service. There is also night skiing available, about 2 to 3 times per week, with impressive floodlighting. Vendalen also hasn't forgotten the snowboarders! With two dedicated fun parks (including the new park at Skalsfjallet) and varied terrain, snowboarders are well catered for here. However, boarders should be aware of the many draglifts and T–bars!vemdalen_polaroids

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
